Behind the scenes update blog post

For those of you who want to read about what’s been happening lately, with the new side project and with the team in general, check bellow the break.

First off, huge shout out to Tori who provided the page stitching for Original Chronicle. This really brought together the major set pieces of this chapter and hopefully we’ll be seeing more of his work in the future.
This manga has a visual style that feels like the Nanoha movie was being played back on the page. So being able to enjoy the two page spreads in what is arguably greater quality than the book itself is going to make this series something extra special.

On my part, Original Chronicle presented to me several design opportunities as I was looking through the original Japanese. The typesetting choices made were intended to better align the look and feel of the English text with the original Japanese. I think it turned out pretty cool in the end and hopefully shows a promising future for this series going forward.

Now, addressing the elephant in the room: Yes, it’s been a while since our last release. And while Original Chronicle is lovely and all, this isn’t Nanoha ViVid. Life has been catching up with us again and our all-star team has been slowed down once more.
Though let me make this exceptionally clear: Original Chronicle and Anthology are not taking time away from ViVid. If you’ve been paying attention to the credits on those, you’ll see that these side projects are done by what might be called the B-Team. ViVid only ever goes through the A-Team because of the higher artistic demands.

To also make clear: we are not dropping anything and Vivid will resume in time.
Still, we are very open to collaborating with individuals and teams who want to work on ViVid and help get it moving. We have the scans and the scripts. Drop us a line if you’re willing to prove that you’re capable of taking on the level of graphical work that Nanoha ViVid requires.

I know we’ve been talking about this for over a year now but it really has been hard finding someone to help out CrazyHat take on ViVid. The few responses we’ve had either weren’t ready to handle ViVid’s level of complexity or just weren’t willing to show us they were capable in the first place. And well, we need not just a person with talent and passion but one who’s also a team player. And finding all that in someone who also wants to work on Nanoha ViVid, which is niche within the already niche Nanoha franchise, has been exceedingly difficult to say the least.

And what comes as no surprise, Anthology is sadly also delayed. There have been numerous technical problems that have prevented things from advancing on that front while I’ve had my attention focused on getting Original Chronicle off the ground. We’re talking major breakdowns with data loss.
So if you’d like to see another Anthology release before the next chapter of Original Chronicle, leave us a comment letting us know and I’ll refocus my personal efforts on that series again. Or better, if you want to get into the world of scanlations yourself, the team has a place for you. Most of the Anthology chapters don’t require nearly as much drawing as ViVid, so they’re a good place to start for newcomers.

Now, I know everyone hates to hear these same old excuses every time. I know everyone hates to see their favorite series get delayed or even just see the group they’ve been following go into a unexpected hiatus. But the truth remains, we are all adults running this show now. We have full-time jobs. We have bills to pay. Some of us even have families to support. So we don’t have the same time and energy to devote to scanlation as we did years back when most of us were still students.
But all that aside, our promise still stands. We will continue to deliver not just Nanoha ViVid but all the projects we start are going to be completed come hell or high water.

So on behalf of Vivid Translation, I thank you all for your continued support and encouragement. It really helps to know that there are fans just like us out there who really enjoy what we pour countless hours into.

Thanks for stopping by and may your days always be vivid and beautiful,
PrimeSonic

  2. I don’t mind the delays, I’m just sad that I don’t have the talent or computer resources for redrawing.
It’s probably pointless to offer, but if you guys need editing work done, someone to look over a translated script and check for spelling errors, grammatical errors or awkward phrasing I could do that.

More hands on deck can always be put to good use. Though for all those tasks, ViVid’s A-Team is already covered.

For what it’s worth, this level of image editing doesn’t require much in the way of hardware. Even older machines are more than capable of handling this. And it doesn’t all involve high levels redrawing.

What might be useful, if we can find someone willing, would be to get another typesetter for our B-Team projects.

I’d be more than willing teach the basics of typesetting to anyone coming in.
