Yeah, mostly, manga authors don’t bother with noses. At best, they’re mere dots.

Considering great many manga authors are very good at drawing (cute & cool) characters, I’d rather say that they are bothered by noses. Thus they reduce them to a few pixels. Except in side profiles, of course.

Thanks for the release, as always! Jolly good reading.

I know sometimes noses don’t get drawn if it’s a shot from a distance or a more comedic facial expression. But in this chapter it often wasn’t the case. Look at the above image: Claus has a nose, Vivio has a nose, Einhart has a nose, Seig has a nose, but only Olivie doesn’t. Why? On page 23 Vivio lacks a nose, but Corona, Rio, and Micaiah, who are further away than her, have noses. Doesn’t that seem strange?

It’s just what I noticed most when typesetting, so I made the credits page about it. Seems more of a case of the artist forgetting to draw the nose, rather than choosing not to.

    I counted 15 instances, btw.

Considering the picture above, only Claus really has a nose – because he’s a man. Cute (especially young) girls seemingly can’t have a realistic nose in great many modern manga styles. That’s basically why I wrote many artists are bothered by noses. If that hypothesis is correct, then it’s quite possible they are indeed unconsciously deciding to leave them out entirely every now and then – or in other words, they forget to draw them.

But I suppose, for the benefit of the doubt, we would also need to ask the cleaner, Crazy Hat, if the raws actually had a single, dim pixel there and it just got removed during cleaning. Looking at some of the noses, I wouldn’t hold it against him.

No need to ask her, as I have the uncleaned raws on hand too. No trace of noses at all.
